In the Beginning

Following the example of my friends who already have or are preparing to leave for the Peace Corps, I have decided to create a blog. It seems highly unlikely that I will update this very often, I rarely write down my ideas, beliefs, inquiries,etc.--although I know that I should. Also, I am working two jobs right now to save up some money and they take up large amounts of my time. So much for a leisurely summer.

The title and description of this blog will undoubtedly change, because I am a rather capricious individual. This title comes from my belief that the way in which I am currently living my life leads to emptiness. I strive for a life like that of Jack Kerouac, Jim Morrison, the Native Americans, and Thoreau. (To diverge from my topic, anyone reading this blog will have to pardon my occassional use of explicatives, I am rather partial to the infamous "F" word.) There is a higher plane of existence that exists for me out there somewhere. Maybe--and Thoreau perhaps understood this better than any (see the conclusion of Walden)-- what I am searching for is not some exotic destination, but a more intimate aquaintance with my own "Self." When I say "Self," I am not alluding to the illusory object as discussed by Zen buddhists, rather I am refering to the Jungian idea of the "Self" as the pinnacle of human existence.

Well that is enough for one night, video games and work have caused my brain to short circuit. Tomorrow I travel to the land of Delta, UT--not sure where it even is, somewhere in the boonies where I am likely to be abducted by some perverted old cattle farmer ("It puts the lotion on it's skin"). Maybe after tomorrow's expedition, I will be to post a Patrick-esque ultra descriptive account of my experiences. Nah, that just wouldn't be my style. Namaste.

For clarification, Delta is not exactly a boom for farmers.

Furthermore, as a farmer I do not appreciate societies insistance on farmers being referred to as 'dumb', 'uneducated', or in this case 'perverted'. How easy it is to take shots at those whom cannot afford the benefits of society (such as computers or the internet) to defend themselves against such callous comments. No Colby, I wont allow it. We will rise up and defend ourselves against such attacks on our peers, our families, and our very livelihoods!

Now, if you were to clarify and say 'sheep farmers', then all the aforementioned points would be true and accurate, and I would promtply withdraw my comments and concur.

:)

P.S. Just Kidding!(If it wasn't obvious.)
